Auditing home desktop PC or laptop is mandatory these days to get hold of things. It always better to know the complete report of your PC hardware, configurations and inventory to keep track of the changes. One can find lot of services online and number of softwares that will do the job for you at the cost of some registration fees. Unlike them WinAudit and LookInMyPc are free softwares for windows to audit your PC and can report on virtually every aspect of computer inventory and configuration.
WinAudit is a light weight freeware which doesn’t require any installation can be part of your USB. This freeware audits your PC and gives complete information about Inventory, Administration, Security and Support and has advanced features such as service tag detection, hard-drive failure diagnosis, network port to process mapping, network connection speed, system availability statistics as well as Windows® update and firewall settings. Reports can be exported as csv, html, pdf or xml. It is a nice tool to be part of one’s vault.
LookInMyPc is another freeware which helps one to audit the PC generating reports on all the installed software and hardware. The software can give information about running processes, installed services, startup programs, Windows updates and hot fixes, active network and Internet connections, TCP/IP port usage, event log detail, etc. Try that out.
But there is no provision in this tool to export the reports to special formats like pdf, xml or csv and no special features mentioned with WinAudit. Both these tools doesn’t have option to do remote audit but holds good for home PCs or computers.
