Bob Marley - ma man!
Bob Marley the Jamican Legend, I came to know about him just months back. I happen to hear him in a party, came know about his life through some of my French and Brazilian friends. I am impressed, why not? He is known widely for performing reggae music. Born on Feb 6, 1945 for a white father and black mother he faced racial abuse through out his youth. At the age of 17 in 1962 he did his first recording and unfortunately it didnt do well for him. The he formed a local band called Wailing Wailers along with his friend Bunny and Peter Tosh. He became a song writer by his first maiden songs “It hurts to be alone” and “Rule the roadie”. At the age of 21 he got married to Rita Anderson and left to united states with his Mother to make money to finance his music. He came back and did some recordings with his Wailing Wailers but nothing brought him good luck.
In 1970 Barret and Carleton joined Wailers and the band began to gain popularity in Jamaica. With the help of Nash the wailers bagged a deal in London and they released “Catch a Fire” kind of reggae albums which received huge critics. In 1973, the wailers released “I shot the Sheriff” and “Get Up Stand Up” which became a huge hit in North America. After this he started giving greating songs like “Revolution”, “No Woman No Cry”. Rolling Stone named them band of the year in 1976. Since he is an activist he planned to give an free concert at Kingston’s National Heroes Park in 1976. The theme of the concert is about Ghetto wars. But unfortunately he and his friends were shot at his house following his decision about the theme. No one was killed in that accident fortunately. Despite Bob Marley did the show two days later and made the crowd rolling.
Look into one of my favourites below,
Later he was tested positive for cancer during an European tour in 1977 and he fell ill. He went on to release his next album “Kaya” in 1978. But nothing stopped him. In 1978 he was awared the Peace Medal from the UN. In 1980 Bob marley collapsed while jogging and he was given a month to live. The “Uprsing” album having the ever green “Redemption Song” made in 1980 became his last in his life. In 1981 may 11th he left this world leaving his fan in tears. A mausoleum was constructed at his birth place after his death. I feel greatly honored to pen down about his life and my love towards his songs.
