Google introduces offline access for Gmail

Gmail offline access Gmail, one of the premier free email services now finally has opened its doors for Gmail offline access paving way to the new Offline Gmail. It has been officially and Andy Palay has posted an article in Google Official blog. Offline Gmail gives user the freedom and flexibility to read and write emails even if they are not connected to the Internet. Announcement of offline access will definitely put Gmail on the top because it is a free service and not all the competitive email services offering the offline access for free. Offline Gmail access is made possible through Google Gears which one needs to download and install to utilize the service.

Gmail Offline Access

Gmail now joins with Zoho Mail and Yahoo which offered offline email access sometime back in October and July 2008. To enjoy the offline access one need to install Google gears and follow the procedures mentioned in the post. Google Gears downloads all your emails to your desktop and now you can access all your emails offline like what you do normally through the browser except with mode set to offline mode. Whenever you reconnect to internet Google gears synchronizes your offline inbox with online automatically. This new feature will definitely attract corporate users to Gmail and Google is working on offline Google Calendar to put itself on the driver seat in the Email market. Currently the option is not included for everyone (that’s why I have not included any screenshots) but it will be introduced gradually over a period of time. I am waiting for it like everyone else.
