JRoller – Java Blogs on the rise!

JRollerJRoller.com is a service that offers free weblogs using the Roller Weblogger software. Roller is nothing but a weblogger (blog server software) designed to install on a Webserver. This JRoller is hopefully one of the best of its kind written in Java. Roller is an open source software that is made available under the Apache Software License. JRoller is maintained and run by the famous and one of the biggest java community called JavaLobby. JRoller was formerly known as FreeRoller which was originally invented by Mr.Anthony Eden.

Roller is a stable weblogger that can support single user weblogs or group weblogs.Apache Roller powers blog
from some of the giants like Sun, IBM, etc. Kinly have a look into Sun Microsystem’s employee blogging site blogs.sun.com. It includes all the usual features of usual PHP blogs like RSS Feeds, Rich text-editing, Templates, trackback, blogroll, XML-RPC etc. JRoller works with all the popular relational databases.

JRoller’s success has been already proved with Apache Tomcat and MySQL. But lot of other users are claiming success withGlassfish, Websphere, JBoSS, Resin, PostresSQL, Oracle etc. If you are a fan of java then it is really good to go with JRoller. The performance of the blogs and stability in comparision with the PHP blogs remains questionable still.

Roller blogs have the following features comparable to the PHP blogs:

  1. Multi-user blogging
  2. Group blogging with three permisson levels (editor, author and limited)
  3. Spam Control
  4. Templates and Themes
  5. Built-in search engine indexes weblog entry content
  6. Pluggable cache and rendering system
  7. Support for blog clients that support MetaWeblog API
  8. Entry and comment feeds in both RSS 2.0 and Atom 1.0 formats
