Keep your desktop in the web using Web OS

webtop Web desktop otherwise known as Web OS (Web Operating System) is now one of the easiest way of keeping your personalized desktop environment online in the web. Web OS can also be called as Webtop or web desktop which allows the users to keep their desktop just by using a browser or by using a client application. Its nothing but the operating system running through your browser on a remote machine. You can upload and keep your files online using Webtop and can access them wherever you go as long as you have Internet connection.

Some even offer 1GB – 3GB web space online and you can keep almost all your required files online. This is like your virtual hard drive and desktop environment running on the web. There are some really good Webtop service you can find online but out of which I like the most are the services from

  1. eyeOS combined with the power of PHP and Ajax is quite popular and is a really good when you are using Firefox 2 and above and for IE it needs IE7 for flawless usage.eyeos-desktop
  2. Desktoptwo which is powered by Sun and comes with OpenOffice suite and is one of my favorite.

  3. G.H.O.S.T (Global Hosted Operating SysTem) which offers a whopping 3GB online storage with Webtop. Probably you will like it. Also options are available for integration with Google Docs, ThinkFree, Meebo, Zoho.

  4. Online Operating System is one another Webtop which even supports lower versions of Firefox. I didn’t try this one quite honestly.

YouOS which is equally popular like the above ones with quite a lot of features is now shutdown by its developers. These Webtops are really useful for guys behind corporate firewall to access/view some files and can even work on some basic applications. Check it out guys!
