Songbird an opensource alternative to iTunes for Linux

songbird-music Apple iTunes is one of the finest digital media player application ever created but it needs a work around to make it run in Linux. Though Linux has got a lot of players that exists around as an alternative for iTunes, Songbird is considered as one of the best look alike opensource media player. Songbird is an initiative from previous developers of famous music players Winamp and the Yahoo! Music Engine. Songbird is a blend of web browser and digital media player built over Mozilla engine with options for plugins, extensions, skins and add-ons.

songbird-addons Songbird has got some powerful add-ons like last.fm, shoutcast, Wikipedia, lyrics display etc. The browser integration with this media player allows you to search music on webpages and has got API to integrate music store on them. Songbird support is limited to a range of Apple iPods and MTP devices including support for popular players from Creative, Samsung, Motorola, Philips, etc. Songbird works fine with Windows, Mac and Linux.
