Spam increases our Environment green woes
Not only the spam mails clogs our email inbox it also damages the environment with carbon dioxide emission reports McAfee. The report is the result of research done by McAfee and ICF says the energy spent over for filtering out the spam can be used to power 2.4 million homes. The report also says the emissions generated each year are equivalent to the output of 3.1 million passenger cars using 2 billion gallons of gasoline which proves to be a quite costly job.
McAfee’s Carbon Footprint of Spam study was released on 15th of this month with the help of climate-change researchers ICF and spam experts. The research says, each spam message creates 0.3gms of CO2 emission with 62 trillion spam emails are sent everyday. Jeff Green, senior vice president of product development and McAfee Avert Labs said,
"As the world faces the growing problem of climate change, this study highlights that spam has an immense financial, personal and environmental impact on businesses and individuals, Stopping spam at its source, as well investing in state-of-the-art spam filtering technology, will save time and money, and will pay dividends to the planet by reducing carbon emissions as well."
The study looked at energy expended on spam in 11 countries including Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, India, Mexico, Spain, the United States and the United Kingdom.
