  2. personally I prefer visuwords
    http://www.visuwords.com

Visuwords uses Princeton University’s WordNet, an open source database built by University students and language researchers it is continually updated, and is totally free. It’s both a dictionary and thesaurus, a wonderful online tool for any writer,it produces diagrams similar in appearance to a neural network diagram, it teaches you how words are associated to each other it is also both simple to use and visually appealing.
