Its high time to know about Post slugs
Search Engine Optimization is very important for every blogger to rank better in Google Search Results and professional bloggers handle them nicely. There are few aspects or options of SEO which are either not talked about much or novice bloggers are not aware of. One such thing I can immediately think of is post slugs in wordpress for optimized post URLs and titles. I had a discussion about this with few bloggers but most of them are not aware of this topic and so I have decided to write down few things to share the knowledge. The word Post Slug (aka permalink or post URL) is most common in wordpress blogging which is nothing but the URL friendly version of the post title generated by WordPress.

Any post published in wordpress without specifying a slug will take post title as the post URL and sometimes it is not SEO friendly. If your title is good enough carrying necessary keywords to attract traffic from Google then you dont have to define a post slug unnecessarily. Sometimes you may create a buzzing and catchy title for your readers to read but it may not be SEO friendly. In that case you can override your post title by specifying a slug to create a SEO optimized URL at the same time with catch post title. Generally one can find this option with wordpress blogging platform and with most blogging tools including Windows Live Writer to specify as shown in the picture above. This post itself is an example of effective usage of post slugs. Please refer to the post URL and post title. This gives a flexibility to bloggers to have optimized URL and catchy title at the same time making them reader friendly and Google friendly.
